The Chicago Bears released running back Kevin Jones on Tuesday. Jones, who missed all of 2009 with a serious ankle injury, signed with the Bears in 2008 and rushed for 109 yards on 34 carries in 11 contests that season. A first-round draft pick of the Lions in 2004, Jones has carried the ball 795 times for 3,176 yards with 24 touchdowns over five NFL seasons. He also has 1,011 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 143 catches.
C.J. Miles scored 16 of his 26 points during a 40-point fourth-quarter as the Jazz dismantled the Bulls 132-108 at the United Center. Deron [[ Darren ]] Williams had 28 points and 17 assists, and Carlos Boozer added 16 points and 10 boards as Utah won for the 18th time in its last 22 games. Derrick Rose led the Bulls with 25 points and 13 assists, and Brad Miller chipped in with 20 points. Luol [[ LOO-all ]] Deng and Ronald Murray added 14 each for Chicago, which allowed more than 100 points to its opponent for the eighth straight time. The Bulls are 2-and-6 in those games. Chicago kicks off a four-game road swing starting tomorrow in Orlando.
Fred Lewis and Buster Posey each homered during a five-run eighth inning, as the San Francisco Giants took down the Chicago White Sox, 6-2, in Cactus League action on Tuesday. Mark Kotsay went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the White Sox. Carlos Quentin knocked in the other run. John Danks struck out four during three scoreless innings. The ChiSox are on the road against the Oakland A's today in Phoenix.
Joe Inglett broke open a tie game in the ninth inning with a two-run homer to send the Milwaukee Brewers past the Chicago Cubs, 5-3, in Cactus League action on Tuesday. Derrek Lee homered for the Cubs, who received solid starting pitching from Randy Wells. The hurler tossed three scoreless innings and struck out two. The Northsiders host the San Francisco Giants today in Mesa.
The Illinois men's basketball team closed out the regular season Sunday with a 72-57 loss to 17th-ranked Wisconsin at Assembly Hall. Jon Leuer and Jordan Taylor scored 20 points apiece for the Badgers. Mike Tisdale tallied 16 points to lead the Fighting Illini, who lost five of their final six regular-season games to fall to 18-and-13 overall and 10-and-8 in the Big Ten. The Illini now move on to the Big Ten Tournament, where they will rematch with Wisconsin Friday in Indianapolis.
