Fire Department 07/19/2010 On Sunday, July 18, the Taylorville Fire Department was called to 520 N. Long after receiving a call for a gas leak.
On Sunday, July 18, TFD was called to 519 E. Vine, to assist in lifting a physically disabled citizen from one bed to another.
On Sunday, July 18, TFD was called to 1003 E. Langleyville after receiving a call of smoke coming from a second-floor window. Upon arrival, TFD found workers sanding dry-wall, with no fire or smoke on the scene.
On Sunday, July 18, TFD was called to 117 E. Franklin after receiving a call of a gas leak. TFD found the resident had busted a gas line, and shut the the gas off at the meter.
Arrests 07/19/2010 Friday, at 3:37 pm, Officer Telford was dispatched to Mach 1 on Main Cross for a report of harassment. Upon arrival, he was told that Joseph L. Baker, 27, was going to slash the throat of a worker at the gas station. Officer Telford later stopped a vehicle occupied by Barker, and charged him with Disorderly Conduct. Barker was released on a notice to appear.
At 5:31 am on Sunday, July 18, Officer Telford observed Melissa Orstead, 21, urinating in an alleyway near Franklin and Main. Orstead had a Shelby Co. Warrant for Dangerous Drugs, and was arrested and brought to CCCC, where she was issued a Local Ordinance Violation for Public Urination.
July 18, at 1:07 am, Officer Telford observed Christopher W. Barnes, 23, walking down E. Poplar Street in his underwear. Barnes was arrested for for Public Intoxication - LO. While in his cell, Barnes stuffed a pillow in the toilet, flooding the cells, back hall, and booking room. He was charged with Criminal Damage to State Supported Property, and transported to CCCC for lodging.
On July 18, at 1:56 am, Officer Telford observed Lacey C. Swinburne, 28, pull into Circle K in a yellow Toyota. Swinburne was arrested for Driving Suspended. Officer Telford also arrested her for Illegal Transportation of Alcohol after noticing two open cans of alcohol in her car.
Saturday, July 17, around 2:14 a.m., Officer Telford and Officer Wood noticed Curtis M. Eller, 19, driving erratically . Officer Telford tried to get behind the vehicle and pull it over, when the vehicle drove off the roadway at 14 Elm Tree Court, and stopped in the yard. Eller got out of the car and took off on foot, where he was later discovered in the basement of 1203 W. Spresser Street. The officers used a taser to detain Eller. He was then brought to post for processing, and charged with Illegal Consumption of Alcohol, Resisting Arrest, and Reckless Driving. Eller was also issued a citation for Illegal Transportation of Alcohol, and issued a Zero Tolerance.
Fidal Kasa, 39, was arrested as a sex offender.
Andrea M. Rogers, 24, was driving south bound on County Highway 5, four tenths of a mile south of 2050 North Road, when it ran off the roadway into the right ditch. Rogers stated that a deer ran into the roadway, and she swerved to avoid the deer. She said she went into the ditch and rolled over into the field. The marks in the grass showed the vehicle traveled 129 feet with one tire in the grass. Rogers then swerved back onto the road, crossing the center line, over-correcting, and slid off the road into the ditch. The vehicle slid 81 feet in the ditch before coming to rest on its side. Both Rogers, and passenger Daniel Aron Owens, 27, left the scene. No injuries were reported.
Lloyd E. Hall, 72, reported checks had been stolen from his residence and cashed in Vandalia, IL, and Patoka, IL. They were from Hall's personal account with 1st National Bank of Assumption.
Robert J. Gist, 40, was arrested for driving with a suspended license.
David Durham reported that between 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm on July 18, 2010, 14 padlocks had been cut off of storage units at 2175 Ill. Rt. 29 in Edinburg.
Gary L. Getz, 77, reported unknown charged purchases on his Visa credit card. Getz had two purchases in Witt, IL, that he did not make, and a police report was filed of credit card fraud.
