Alexander P Smith, 91, of Bulpitt passed away on September 1, 2010 at 6:54pm at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. He was born October 11, 1918 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Peter and Grace (Driskell) Smith. He married Lena "Helen" Reid and she preceded him in death. He later married Mary Lou (Hughes) Lawrence May 14, 1989. He worked for Peabody Coal Company for 40 years and was a member of UMWA. After retiring he worked for Smith Security as a security guard at Commonwealth Edison for 8 years.

He is survived by his wife: Mary Lou Smith of Bulpitt, son: Michael (wife Shannon) Lawrence of Kincaid, daughter: Loretta Sue (husband Randy) Ringo of Staunton, grandsons: Branden Lawrence and Cody Ringo, granddaughter: Allison Mathis, great granddaughter Aubree Lawrence, nephew: Pete (wife Donna) Miller of Indiana and adopted daughter: Felicia (husband Kevin) Unser of Kincaid. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen and sister June Miller.

Services will be held on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at 12:00pm at Shafer-Perfetti Funeral Home. Burial will be in Edinburg Cemetery in Edinburg. Visitation will be held Saturday, September 4, 2010 from 10am until 12pm in Shafer-Perfetti Funeral Home.

Wanda I Dodson, 88, of Owaneco passed away at 8:12am Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at her residence. She was born February 21, 1922 in Greenwood Township, the daughter of Walter G and Sarah Maude Woodall Hill. On January 31, 1942 she married Byron V Dodson in St Charles, MO and he preceded her in death on March 4, 2002. She was a homemaker and a member of the Owaneco United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her sons: Byron David Dodson and Gary Lee Dodson both of Owaneco, 7 grandchildren: Jackie Kluthe, Brian Best, Renee Singleton, Christine Norris, Lisa Hayes, BreAnne True and Ashley Brown, 21 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson, 2 sisters: Mary (husband Ed) Heberling of Taylorville and Betty Benson of Lakeland, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter: Shirley Best, 5 brothers: Glenn Hill, Paul Hill, Charles Hill, Bennie Hill, Elmer Hill, 3 sisters: Jessie Avis, Alta Smith, Wilma Lamb and brother in law Bill Dodson.

Bernadine Faye Reeter, 84, of Taylorville, passed away at 3:00pm Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at Meadow Manor Nursing Home in Taylorville. She was born October 14, 1925 in Vandalia, IL, the daughter of Frank and Verna Logston Augustine. She married Norville Reeter in March 1961 and he preceded her in death in 1987. She was a member of the Lutheran Church in Vandalia and the Ladies of the Moose Lodge 1516 in Taylorville.

She is survived by her daughters: Geraldine (husband Thomas) Halbrook of Taylorville, Joyce (husband Thomas) Robinson of Waggoner, 8 grandchildren: Denny Arnold, Gary Arnold, Gale Brookens, Stacey Kersey, Melody Hathaway, Terry Wiles, CHris Wiles, Tracey Reemer, 28 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and brother: Clarence Freeman of California. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 sisters and 2 brothers.

Thomas A Hurelbrink, 34, of Chenoa, formerly of Mt Auburn lost his corageous battle with brain cancer on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at 4:00pm at his residence. He was born on August 4, 1976 in Springfield, IL, the son of Paul and Susan Nesvacil Hurelbrink. He married Brandie Nyberg on September 4, 1999 in SPringfield, IL. He graduated from Taylorville High School Class of 1994. He attended Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville where he was a member of TKE fraternity. He was a correctional officer at the Pontiac Correctional Center for 13 years. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking, golfing, fishing and watching Dallas Cowboys Football. He was also a member of AFSCME Union, Fraternal Order of Police and the NRA.

He is survived by his wife: Brandie of Chenoa, parents: Paul and Susan Hurelbrink of Mt Auburn, grandmother: Emily Nesvacil of Mt Auburn, mother in law: Colleen White of Mt Auburn, brother in law: Ron (wife Michelle) Nyberg of Georgia, sister in law: McKenzie Cunningham of Mt Auburn, nephew: Damien Cunningham and nieces: Jamin and Annabelle Nyberg and Careyanna Cunningham.

She was born June 5, 1949 in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Jim Brown and Thelma J (Haslett) Herzog. She married Dwight Rozplochowski on May 6, 1967 in Taylorville. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall.

Richard Otto Robinson, 74, of Taylorville formerly of Bakersfield, CA, passed away at 1:25pm Saturday, August 28, 2010 at his residence. He was born February 24, 1936 in Bakersfield, CA, the son of William and Nota Bennett Robinson. He married Norma Arnold in Taft, CA. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Taylorville and the Elks Lodge in California. He was a retired contractor.

He is survived by his wife Norma Robinson of Taylorville, son: Steve (wife Suzanne) of Taylorville, granddaughter: Kay Cee Robinson of Taylorville, brother: William(wife Mary) Robinson Jr of Santa Maria, CA and sister: Beverly Robey of Bakersfield, CA.

William T Buckler, 49, of Taylorville, passed away Saturday August 28, 2010 in his residence. He was born June 8, 1961 in Taylorville, the son of Robert and Louada (Hill) Buckler. He was a veteran of the US Army.

Jean Vedas, 95, of Taylorville passed away at 7:00am Thursday, August 26, 2010 at her residence. She was born November 25, 1914 in Gillespie, the daughter of Charles and Rachael Bulloch Menzie. On June 18, 1936 she married Joseph A Vedas in Taylorville and he preceded her in death on July 6, 1994. She was a Registered Nurse and had been employed by St Vincents Memorial Hospital and St John's Hospital. She and her husband owned and operated Vedas Greenhouse in Taylorville for 35 years from 1954 to 1989. She was a member of St Mary's Catholic Church in Taylorville, Catholic Daughters of America and the Professional Nurses Association.

She is survived by her sons: Don (wife Marilyn) Vedas of Pekin, Larry (wife Judy) Vedas, of Peoria, AZ, daughter: Arlene Morris of Taylorville, 4 grandchildren: Steve (wife Jill) Vedas, John (wife Mary Ellen) Vedas, Doug Vedas, Michael Vedas, 8 great grandchildren: Jeff Vedas, Laura Vedas, Joshua Vedas, Adam Vedas, Daniel Vedas, Katherine Vedas, Tori Vedas, Erica Vedas and Brother: John Menzie of Gillespie.

Joe Lynn, 86, of rural Stonington passed away August 26, 2010 at Memorial Hospital in Springfield. He was born April 21, 1924 the son of J Virgil and Ellice Lynn. He married Mary C Corden on May 6, 1944 in Stonington. He was a grain and livestock farmer for 67 years. He was also president and director of Assumption Mutual Insurance Agency from 1947 to 2010. He also wrote insurance for Prairieland Central Illinois Mutual. He graduated from Stonington High School in 1941 and served as state FFA president and was an American Farmer. He was an agriculture major at the U of I until he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He flew 52 missions in Italy and North Africa as a bombadier in a B 24 aircraft during WWII. He organized Brushy Branch Consolidated School District from 6 rural districts and served as the board president from 1946-1951. He also served on the Stonington School Board from 1951-1964. He was Supervisor of May Township from 1948-1984. He served on the Christian County Board from 1948-1978 and served as Chairman for 1 year. He was an active member of Old Stonington Baptist Church for 64 years where he served as church clerk for 25 years, trustee and Sunday School teacher. He was a member and officer of the 376 Heavy Bombardment Group Veteran's Association. He traveled to many states for conventions and made many new friends with this organization. He enjoyed gardening, meeting people, enjoying his family and telling great stories of the past.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years: Mary, children: Mary Alice (husband John) Bonsoe of Metamora, IL, Barbara Jo Lynn of Normal, IL, Judy (husband Wayne) Swigert of Taylorville, grandchildren: Keri (husband Matt) Lee, Tim (wife Lisa) Bonsoe, Ashley (husband Jesse) Walker, Stephanie (husband Kirk) Kendle and 2 great grandchildren: Allison and Evan Bonsoe. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister: Carol Stafford.

Hershel R. Chesser, 91, of Taylorville, passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at 1:00 PM in Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville. He was born April 15, 1919 in Winslow, IN., the son of Cleveland & Bessie (Jones) Chesser. He married Moneah Mae Miley on March 1, 1940. She preceded him on January 1, 2010. He was a retired welder at Caterpillar Tractor Co. He was a member of V F W Post #4495 in Taylorville and U A W Local 751 in Decatur.

He is survived by sons Cecil (wife Beverly) Chesser of Taylorville, IL. and Mike (wife Pam) Chesser of Decatur, IL., 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 1 brother, 1 sister and several nieces & nephews. he was preceded by parents, wife, and 3 brothers.

Leona Caulk, 84, of Taylorville, passed away Monday August 23, 2010 at her residents. She was born July 23, 1926 in Mt. Auburn IL, the daughter of Leroy Henry and Nora Hallie Pumphrey Reindl. She married Earl Joseph Caulk on September 9, 1945 in Witt IL. She was a retired sales clerk for the Health Food store and Card House. She was a member of the Taylorville Christian Church.

Edna L. Willer, 93 of Taylorville passes away Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 12:55 AM at Taylorville Care Center. She was born June 7, 1917 at Allenville, Missouri the daughter of Henry and Sophia (Voss) Muster, She married Norman U. Willer on November 1, 1938 at Jackson, Missouri; he preceded her in death along with her parents; 4 brothers and 4 sisters.

Edna was a homemaker and also cleaned homes. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aid an d Navy Mothers.

On June 25, 1936 she married Chester A Gibson in Shelbyville and he preceded her in death on December 9, 1997. She was a homemaker and a member of Community of Christ Church in Taylorville.

She was born April 21, 1944 at Morrisonville, the daughter of John and Talena Jane (Brown) Hancock. She married Shans Anthony Antonini and he preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and was of the Catholic Faith.

He married Grace Monkman many years ago she preceded him in death. He was a retired machinist at Mueller Co and Stonington Fertilizer.

Gordon Eugene Richardson, 84, of Taylorville passed away at 9:24pm August 16, 2010 at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur. He was born December 4, 1925 in Irving, KY, the son of George Strauther and Leona (Macintosh) Richardson. He married Patricia A Whalen on April 28, 1950 in Decatur. He was founder of Gordon Olds Pontiac GMC in Taylorville since 1963. He retired in 1988. He was a member of Mound Lodge AF&AM #122 of Taylorville, Ansar Shrine, Christian County Shrine Club (Past President), VFW Post #4495 in Taylorville, Taylorville Chamber of Commerce (past president) and First United Methodist Church. He was an US Army Veteren served during WWII 1944-1946 where he earned a Purple Heart. He especially enjoyed spending time with His family and was an avid sportsman, enjoying fishing, hunting and playing golf.

Verdene Akers,, 93, of Evansville, Indiana, formerly of Taylorville, passed away at 5:00pm Sunday, August 15, 2010 at Bethel Manor Nursing Home in Evansville. She was born September 29, 1916 in Owaneco, the daughter of Joseph and Minnie Law Cook. On November 19, 1941 she married Harold G Akers in St Charles, MO and he preceded her in death on December 30, 1985. She was a homemaker, member of the First United Methodist Church in Taylorville and the United Methodist Women.

She is survived by her son: David (wife Georgeann) Akers of Evansville, IN, grandchildren: Cheri (husband Joseph)Stratman of Evansville, IN, Lauri (husband Craig) Egli of Cynthiana, IN, Rachel Akers of Cincinnati, OH, great grandchildren: Sean Elgi, Kane Stratman, Anna Stratman and several nieces and nephews. Daytona Breeze Heiple, formerly known as Debra Kay Meads, of Tovey, passed away August 13, 2010 at 11:14pm at St Johns Hospital in Springfield. She was born November 20, 1963 in Taylorville, the daughter of Donald and Eleanor (Kalka) Meads. She enjoyed quilting and crocheting blankets that were donated to the missions of the church, an avid crappie fisherwoman and she enjoyed spending time with her pets. She was a member of Rochester Christian Church and was Block Captain of the neighborhood watch of Tovey. She was the Former Village Clerk for Tovey and had worked for State of Illinois Department of Family Services.

She is survived by her husband: William E Heiple, brother: LJ (wife Marjorie) Wallace Meads of Taylorville, sisters: Dureen Peek of Coulterville, Donna Hampton of Athens, Elizabeth Saulsberry of Illiopolis, step daughter: Michelle (husband Joey) Craig of Okay, OK, grandchildren: Brandon and Lindsey Tyler and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and nephew: Daniel Meads.

Cecil Polley, 100, of Witt, passed away at 2:50am August 12, 2010 at Taylorville Care Center. He was born September 5, 1909 in Fancher, IL, the son of N.W. & Dora (Colony) Polley. He married Nellie Blickem on November 23, 1929 in Shelbyville and she preceded him in death on October 3, 1999. He was a retired Farmer. He was a member of the Nokomis Lodge AF&AM #340.

He is survived by his daughters: Doris Kottwitz of Nokomis and Cressie Mitchell of Springfield, 6 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 15 great great grandchildren, sister: Rose (husband Jim) Miller of Charleston, IL and several nieces and nephews. She was born September 12, 1927 in Morrisonville, the daughter of Adolph and Catherine Nagle Unser. On September 1, 1949 she married William "Bill" Curtin in Morrisonville. She was a member of St Mary's Catholic Church in Taylorville and a former long time member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and Holy Trinity Altar and Rosary Society in Stonington.

He was born February 27, 1923 in Mechanicsburg, the son of William Walter and Flora Ethel (Morgan) Lochbaum. He married Lois E Barnes in March of 1947 in My Auburn. She preceded him in death December 8, 1983. He then married Sylvia C Smith on September 16, 1993 in Las Vegas, NV. He was a retired farmer.

Thomas J Bland Jr, 79, of Taylorville passed away August 5, 2010 at 4:16am at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. He was born October 24, 1930 in Taylorville, the son of Thomas J and Julia (Smith) Bland Sr. He married Phyllis Brady on October 26, 1952 at St Mary's Catholic Church in Taylorville. He was a retired Supervisor in Machine Room at Hopper Paper Co. and owner of Tom Bland Jr Real Estate. He was one of the founding members of the Taylorville Junior Football League, Red Bland Little League Coach, Christian County Board Member for several years, Taylorville Park Board Trustee for several years. He was a loyal Chicago Cub fan and enjoyed watching his grandchildrens sporting events and listening to Big Band Music.

He is survived by his wife, sons: Rick (wife Teri) Bland of Stonington, Tim (wife Lisa) Bland of Taylorville, daughter: Andra (husband Bill) Ebert of Taylorville, grandchildren: Brendan, Morgan, Justin and Tripp all of Taylorville, 4 great grandchildren, brother: William Bland of Taylorville and several nieces and nephews. Patricia "Pat" Merano, 78, of Kincaid passed away at 11:30am on August 1, 2010 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. She was born March 24, 1932, in Breese, IL, the daughter of Henrietta (Ess) and Lawrence Schulte. She married Louis Merano on January 16, 1954 in Kincaid. She attended and graduated from Kincaid Public Schools elementary school to high school. She was employed as a seamstress at the Cardinal Products in Kincaid and Rothley's in Taylorville. She attended St Ritas Catholic Church and was a member of Rosary and Alter Society. Also she was a volunteer at the Kincaid Public Library. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, gardening, cooking, reading and bird watching. She also got great pleasure from playing cards with her sisters. Her greatest joy in life was being a grandmother. One thing she truly enjoyed was spending time with her family, especially during the holidays; she made her famous tortaloch dish and baked every kind of cookie imaginable. Playing games was another activity that she liked even though sometimes the competition would get very heated between family members. She was always the mediator between everyone. She will be missed very much by her family.

She is survived by her children: Dale (wife Beverly) Merano of Kincaid, Denise Merano of Sacramento, CA, Lisa (husband David) Fines of Taylorville, Lori Merano of Kincaid, her grandchildren: Stephanie (husband Joe) Leonard, Melanie Merano, Elizabeth Fines and John Fines, her sisters: Ethel Mansfield and Iris Anderson and brothers: Terrance Schulte and Trent Schulte and numerous nieces and nephews, She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister: Doris Jean Peel and brother: Dennis Schulte.

Stephen Allen Knipp, 60, of Virden passed away Thursday, July 29, 2010. He was born July 22, 1950 at Belleville, the son of Oscar and Edna (Cook) Knipp Jr. Before his retirement, he taught English, Driver's Education and Physical Education at Morrisonville High School. He also assisted with Baseball and coached the girl's Volleyball team. He was a member of IEA, NEA, Morrisonville Education Association, Native American Alaskan Indian Caucus, Minority Affairs and SIE-E Alumni.

He is survived by his sons: Jason Knipp of Virden, Jeff (wife Julie) Knipp of Alton, 3 grandchildren: Brittney, Jazzmine and Luke, mother: Edna Knipp of Girard, brother: Rich (wife Denise) Knipp of Florida, 1 niece and 1 nephew. He was preceded in death by his father and brother: Phil Knipp.

Veda Mae Millman, 98, of Taylorville, passed away at 3:20pm Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at Meadow Manor Nursing Home. She was born July 16, 1912 in Taylorville, the daughter of Marion and Hattie Worley Gilpin. On December 24, 1935, she married Hunter H Millman in Taylorville and he preceded her in death on April 26, 1971. She was a school teacher in Christian County and later worked and retired from Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. She was a member of United Methodist Women.

She was born September 16, 1923 in Blue Mound, the daughter of William "Buck" Elmer and Cleo Beatrice Myres Damery. She married Elmo Carol Morthole on August 27, 1945 in Taylorville and he preceded her in death on June 1, 1978. She was a bookkeeper. She was of One of Jehovah's Witnesses Taylorville Congregation. She was a resident of Taylorville for 63 years.

Cletis B. Huddleston of Morrisonville, 83, died July 24th at 10:10pm at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.

He was born November 28,k 1926, in Byrdstown, Tennessee, the son of Claude Smith and Leona Pearl Dowdy Huddleston.
He married Rose Boch Huddleston on August 24, 1952, in Palmer, Illinois.

Mr. Huddleston was a retired coal miner and farmer.

He is survived by his spouse, Rose Boch Huddleston; sons Joseph and Kathy (Pusch) Huddleston of Elgin, Illinois; David and Terri (Douglas) Huddleston of Fishers, Indiana; grandchildren Kelsey Huddleston of Kalamazoo, Michigan; Phillip Huddleston of Bloomington, Indiana; Brady Huddleston of Anderson, Indiana; Ryan Huddleston of West Lafayette, Indiana.

He is also survived by a brother, Don and Sharri (Todt) Huddleston of Palmer, Illinois; eleven nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 1 sister, 1 daughter, and 1 granddaughter.

He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church, Taylorville. He was a U.S. Navy veteran from 1946-47, and loved hunting, fishing, working in his garden, and serving the Lord faithfully.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 28th, at 10am, at Sutton Memorial Home, Taylorville, with Pastor Philip Newman officiating. Visitation is Tuesday, July 27th from 6 to 8pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Anderson Cemetery at Palmer.

Helen Esther Spain Cormaney of Las Vegas, Nevada, 94, died July 21st at 6:20pm in Las Vegas, Nevada.

She was born in Sharpsburg, Illinois, the daughter of Warren Dale and Amy Lulu Hayes Spain. She married Charles Lewis Cormaney on July 26, 1937 in St. Louis, Missouri. She was an ordinance assembler during World War II in the Illiopolis defense plant.

She is survived by her daughter Mrs. Ronald and Amy (Rosalie) Schumacher of Las Vegas, Nevada; grandchild Christopher Todd Cormaney of Chatham, IL; sister, Catherine Ackerson of Springfield, Illinois; several nieces and nephews; and a daughter-in-low, Elaine Cormaney of Springfield, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son David.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Taylorville. She loved to collect butterflies.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 27, at 11am, at First United Methodist Church, Taylorville, with Pastor Charlie Sward officiating. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to services. Mary B Johnson, 101, of Nokomis, passed away July 23, 2010 at 2:15am at Hillsboro Health Care. She was born August 26, 1908 in Litchfield, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Schmidt) Brandt. She married Louis Johnson in 1941 at New Louder, MO. He preceded her in death in 1962. She was retired. She worked at Keele's Cleaners, worked in laundry at Golden Manor Nursing Home and Loved to Hand Quilt. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Nokomis.

She is survived by 3 nieces and 1 nephew. He was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 sister and 4 brothers.

Alfred Wilson Hand, 80, of Fillmore, passed away July 19, 2010 at 1:50am at Hillsboro Area Hospital. He was born August 8, 1929 in Witt Township, the son of LaVern Wilson and Ida Mathilda (Bauerle) Hand. He married Mary Eloise Rhoads on August 31, 1954 at Nokomis and she preceded him in death on December 7, 2008. He farmed his entire life. He was an US Army Veteran. He was a friend to many and a stranger to none. He was a member of St Mark's Church in Nokomis, Farm Bureau, Montgomery County Democrats, Nokomis Masonic Lodge, Taylorville Shrine Club, Prime Timers and was a Volunteer at Golden Manor Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was a retired Homemaker and worked at the Ammunition Plant in Illiopolis during WWII. She was a member of Peter Meyer Chapter DAR, Christian County Genealogical Society and Sangamon County Genealogical Society.

LaVerne Foster Tex, 89, of Owaneco, passed away at 9:05am Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Pana. She was born March 27, 1921 in Mulberry, KS, the daughter of John J and Alberta "Berta" Fritts Foster. On July 25, 1940 she married Robert "Bob" Tex and he preceded her in death on June 22, 1957. She was a stay at home Mom until her last child of six graduated high school. Fulfilling a lifetime dream she then attended cosmetology school and opened a beauty shop in her home which she ran for 11 years.

She is survived by her sons: Robert (wife Ruth) Tex of Taylorville, Michael (Mick" Tec of Owaneco, daughters: Diane (Danny) Gowdy of Owaneco, Doris (husband John) Turner of Pana, 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son: Jack Tex, dauther: Donna Bilyeu, grandson: Doug Schmidt and granddaughter: Sabel Walker.

She married Wayne Robert Sheldon in May 1, 1975 in Warrensville, IL and he preceded her in death on June 1, 2004. She was a retired Nurse.

Terry "Smoky" Watson, 63, of Taylorville, passed away July 8, 2010 at 3:35pm at his residence. He was born May 8, 1947 in Taylorville, the son of Ivan "Smoky" and Mary Katherine (Bingham)Watson. He married Deidra Ray on October 18, 1964 at Owaneco. They later divorced. He was a retired Coal Miner from Peabody Mine #10 and Freeman United Coal Company after 33 years, he retired in 1999. He was an avid motorcyclist and car buff, he enjoyed building and restoring both motorcycles and Model A cars. He was a member of the 40 mph Club and ABATE. He owned his own shop in Morrisonville, "H-D Rebuilders" for a number of years and built and rode motorcycles all his life.

Edith Shipp, 99, of Taylorville passed away June 25, 2010 at 7:50 am at her residnce. She was born June 21, 1911 in Hardin County, IL, the daughter of Clarence and Effie Riley Humphrey. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Taylorville. Mrs. Shipp was formely employed as a seamstress at Summers Deparement Store and Marblestones in Taylorville. Later she had her own alteration business. She married Orval A. Shipp in Marion, IL on April 13, 1929 and he preceded her in death on February 24, 2000.

She is survived by her daughter Mary (husband Harry) of Stonington. 5 grandchildren: Michael “Mick” Shipp (wife Juanita) of Taylorville, Gary Blome (wife Judy) of Decatur, Terry Blome (Wife Lori) of Pleasant Plaines, Jennifer Garibay (husband Gabriel) of Harrisburg, SD, and Jessie Shipp of Minnesota. Mary Barra Podeschi, 103, of Taylorville, passed away at 7:05pm Thursday, June 24, 2010 at her residence. She was born August 19, 1906 in Springfield, IL, the daughter of Pletro Michelle (Peter Michael) Barra and Caterina (Catherine) Mecca-Ferroglia Barra. She was brought to Taylorville as an infant, th the city's coal mining suburb of Hewittville where her father was employed at the then "New Mine", Peabody Mine No. 58. She lived in Taylorville her entire lifetime, for over 103 years. In 1924, she married Antonio "Tony" Podeschi at St Mary's Catholic Church in Taylorville, after which she joined her husband in his business, Taylorville Wholesale Grocery Company. She was a homemaker most of her life. She was a lifelong member of St Mary's Catholic Church in Taylorville.

She is survived by her daughter: Norma Christine Driscoll of Hinsdale, sons: John Battista (wife Gwen) Podeschi of Taylorville, Peter Michael Podeschi of Taylorville, 10 grandchildren: Peter (wife Colleen) Driscoll of Kenilworth, Mary Driscoll (husband Charles) Ragin of Tucson, AZ, James (wife Alexandra) Driscoll of Willowbrook, Michael Driscoll of Brookfield, Patrice (husband Joseph) Kennedy of Sarasota, FL, Catherine Bilyeu of Sarasota, FL, Paula Hager of Edinburg, Anthony "Tony" Podeschi of Sarasota, FL, Emily Christine Podeschi and Mark Walter Podeschi both of Taylorville. There are numerous great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved sister Christine Barra, husband Tony who preceded her on August 18, 1989, one son: James Anthony Podeschi and one daughter: Barbara Catherine Podeschi, her aunt: Domenica Barra Crusiglia Cargnino, and her sole American cousins: Mary Crusiglia Harmon and Margaret Crusiglia. She also leaves cousins in the Piedmont region of Italy, especially around Monastero do Lanzo, where both of her parents were born. She was proud of her Pledmontese heritage, spoke the language, travelled there and retained family land and family ties there.

Mary Frances Hile, 89, of Atlanta, GA, formerly of Taylorville died at 5:45 p.m. Friday, June 18, 2010 at A.G. Rhodes Health and Rehab Center in Atlanta. She was born September 2, 1920 in Taylorville the daughter of Septimouse and Frences Kain Mitchelson. On June 29, 1943 she married George Russel Hile in Taylorville and he preceded her in death on May 23, 1972.

Mrs Hile was a former employee of Anderson Jewelry and St. Mary's School. She retired in 1983 from Georgia Pacific in Taylorville. She was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

Surviving is her son Marty Hile and wife Julie of Atlanta, GA. There are several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday June 23 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Alan Hunter officiation. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service in the church on Wednesday. The family will receive friends at a gathering at the Round Table at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday.

Ara Lee Pearson, 83, of Peoria, Illinois, formerly of Taylorville, died at 11:15 a.m., Friday, June 18, 2010, at Rosewood Care Center, Peoria, Illinois. She was born May 4, 1927, in Taylorville, the daughter of Frank A. and Lela Fern Logan Ward. On July 27, 1952 she married Elwood Marshall Pearson, Jr. in Taylorville. He preceded her in death of February 12, 1996. Mrs. Pearson graduated from Illinois State University in 1949 with a degree in Education. She taught business classes in Trenton, Mt. Pulaski, and Taylorville Highschool, and later was a substitute teacher for District 150 in Peoria. She retired in 1985. She was a member of Pi Omega Pi and Kappa Delta Epsilon Sorority in I.S.U. and was active with the Methodist Medical Center Service League in Peoria. Mrs. Pearson was also preceded in death by her parents and her twin sisters, Jan and infant Llene Ward.

Surviving are her daughters, Karen Slane, of Peoria; and son, Kevin Marshall Pearson, of Wichita Falls, Texas. Grandchildren are Christine Slane of Llsle, Illinois; Brian M. Pearson of Peoria, Illinois; and Douglas K. Pearson of Centralia, Illinois.

She was of the Methodist faith.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 24, at McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville, with Rev. Richard Smith officiation. Burial will be in Old Stonington Cemetery. Visitation will be held form 1:00 p.m. until the time of service in the funeral home on Thursday. A brief reception at Old Stonington baptist Church will immediately follow the burial.

She will fondly be remembered for always seeing the good in all people and situations, her candy and noodles, her love of entertaining holiday decorating, and especially traveling.

Billie D. Lucas, 70, of Hillsboro, formerly of Terre Haute, IN and Kincaid died at 5:15 a.m. Monday June 21, 2010 in Hillsboro Health Care Center, in Hillsboro. He was born November 11, 1939 in Steritz, IL, the son of John R. and Mamie B. Seagle Lucas Sr. He was a coal miner and had served in the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by his sons, Larry Arthur and Donnie Arthur, both of Terre Haute, IN; Daughter, Billie Jean of Terre Haute, IN; brothers; Raymond and wife Anita Lucas and Fred and wife Donna Lucas, both of Kincaid; sisters, Geraldine Drnjevic of Bullpitt, Vivian and husband Earl Tippitt of Clinton, Mary Prior of Sterling, Ludy Molohon of Myrtle Beach SC, Nancy and husband Gerald Bucshon of Kincaid, Joyce Lucas of Champaign, Dorthy and Husband Dean Greenwood of Florence KY, Judy and husband Dan Pittman of Springfield; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Carrie Glymp and Tammy Arthur; brothers, John "J.R." Lucas and Paul S. Lucas; sister, Lillian Johnson; and companion, Tinina Arthur.

Paul E Taylor, 85, of Taylorville, passed away at 7:20am Friday, June 18, 2010 at his residence. He was born August 17, 1924 in Fayette County, IL, the son of William and Rosa Pearl Hedges Taylor. On March 11, 1947 he married Elvira E "Barb" Taylor in Brownstown, she preceded him in death on August 11, 1994. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII, Member of American Legion Post #4495, Moose Lodge #1516, Eagles Club, Mound Lodge #122 A.F. & A.M., all of Taylorville and Springfield Consistory Shrine. He owned and operated Taylor Trucking and had been employed by Ashland Oil Company.

She was born April 27, 1918 in Stonington, IL the daughter of Valtaire and Cymone Besson Jouglet. On October 13, 1942 she married Austin A. Hemingway in St. Charles, MO and he preceded her in death on January 28, 1996.

She was born November 20, 1924 in Stonington, IL, the daughter of Jennings Bryan and Ada May Rhodes Doty. She first married John Arthur Roach and then on October 22, 1966 she married Robert W Miller in Stewartville, MN and he preceded her in death on February 6, 1989. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Taylorville.

She is survived by her children: Jim (wife Janet) Roach of Langleyville, Carol (husband Larry) Myers of Woodridge, Mary (husband Elmer) Weller of Bokchito, OK, grandchildren: Eric Roach, Kristie Jaeger, Anita Bluhm, Lori Roach, Gail Myers, Sam Weller, Brian Myers, Kathy Weller, 8 great grandchildren, 2 sisters: Faye LeDuc of Pana, Flossie Huber of Kewanee, many nieces and nephews. Fred Collins Tomlin, 57, of Taylorville, passed away at 5:30pm Monday, June 14, 2010 at his residence. He was born May 28, 1953 in Springfield, IL, the son of Fred H and Janice Collins Tomlin. On July 20, 1983 he married Debra Lowe in Atlanta, GA. He had been employed by Illinois Department of Transportation and retired in June 2008 after 25 years of service. He was a Marine Veteran of the Viet Nam War and was a member of Teamsters Local 32 in Decatur ad A.B.A.T.E.

He is survived by his wife: Debra of Taylorville, children: Sonny (wife Amy) Shanks of Morrisonville, Jennifer Walsh of Springfield, Jeff (fiance' Rebecca) Shanks of Taylorville, Tanya (husband Alex) Horath of Taylorville, Heather Tomlin and companion John Coady of Tovey, 13 grandchildren, sisters: Melinda Murray of Rocky River, OH, Janice A Tomlin of Clearwater, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Zachary Michael Snow, 5, of Taylorville, passed away June 10, 2010 at 8:40am at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. He was born July 7, 2004 in Monett, MO, the son of Anthony Wayne and Natasha (Snow) Plopper. Zachary was his sisters best friend and played T-Ball on Neikes Floor Covering Team.

Sadie Ann Barnes, 76, of Owaneco, passed away June 3, 2010 at 2:15pm at her residence. She was born February 24, 1934 in Stonington, IL, the daughter of Harrison and Sarah (Trotter) Smith. She married Ernest Durbin many years ago then married Charles M Barnes in 1973. She was a retired homemaker.

Becky Jo Brooks, 57, of Normal, formerly of Taylorville, IL and Tempe, AZ passed away May 31, 2010 at 6:45am at her residence in Normal. She was born November 10, 1952 in Taylorville, IL, the daughter of James F and Anita C (Krueger) Brooks. She had a long battle with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. She graduated from Taylorville High School in 1970 and then graduated from Illinois State University with a degree in elementary education. She then moved to Tempe, AZ and was a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. She cared for many abandoned cats in the Tempe, AZ area and loved each and every one of them. She then moved to Normal, IL in 2007 to live with her sister: Brenda Tannahill.

She is survived by brother: James F (wife Trish) Brooks of LaVergne, TN, sisters: Bobbie (husband Bob) Long of Hammond, IL, Bev Brooks of Richardson, TX, Brenda (husband Al) Tannahill of Normal, IL, nieces & nephews: Sherry (husband Bill) Schable of Atwood, Shelly (husband Tom) Myers of Shattue, IL, Rod (wife Julie) Long of Centralia, IL, Stacey (husband Jeremy) Welch of Atwood, IL, Sara (husband Randy) Lindsey of Hudson, IL, Jennifer (husband Marlon) Moline of LaVergne, TN, 3 great nieces and 9 great nephews. James L Nagle, 83, of Taylorville, passed away Saturday May 29, 2010 at his residence. He was born September 12, 1926 in Taylorville, the son of Joseph L and Margaret Morrissey Nagle. On December 20, 1958 he married Betty J Lusk Hoffman and she preceded him in death on November 14, 2003. He was a member of St Mary's Catholic Church in Taylorville. He was an Army Veteran of WWII, member of VFW Post 4495 and American Postal Workers Union. He was an avid bowler and was Past President of the Taylorville Bowler's Association. He had been employed by Dominic Menetti and later owned and operated Nagle's Phillips 66 Service Station. He had also been employed by the Taylorville School District and was retired from the Taylorville Post Office.

She is the daughter f of Larry Dale and Barbara Sue (Boehler) McKinney. She married Ronald Dale White on June 15, 1991 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Taylorville. She was a Former Bank Employee and worked in Christian County Circuit Clerk's Office.

She is survived by her husband Ronald, daughter Amelia Jean White of Taylorville, parents, Larry and Barbara McKinney of Taylorville, brother Eric McKinney of Taylorville, sisters: Elaine and husband Wade Johnston, Susan and husband Doug Nelson all of Taylorville, Maureen and husband Jeff Landers of Grindley, grandmother Helen Boehler of Hillsboro and seven nieces and nephews. He preceded her in death on January 28, 1994. She was a retired Secretary having worked at Illinois Bell and J.C. Finance.

Betty J (Chitwood) Males, of Kincaid, passed away May 26, 2010 at 3:00am in St Johns Hospice in Springfield. She was born June 5, 1931 in Moss, TN, the daughter of Dumas and Allie (Reagan) Chitwood. She married Donald F Males on June 27, 1948 in Toledo, Ohio. He preceded her in death on October 21, 2001. She was an Office Manager/Bookkeeper at Trilby Vision Center in Toledo, Ohio. She loved to garden, bowl, fish, cook, sew, paint and spend time with her children and grandchildren.

Georgia Elizabeth Forbes, 92, of Morrisonville, passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at Meadow Manor. She was born December 3, 1917 at Harvel, the daughter of Walter and Clara (Gentry) Thurnhorst. She married Glenn Crites in 1938; he preceded her in death in 1943. She married Mel Forbes on December 18, 1946 at Morrisonville; he preceded her in death on October 22, 2003. She owned and operated her own beauty shop in Morrisonville for many years. She owned and operated her own beauty shop in Morrisonville for many years. She was a member of the Morrisonville American Legion Post 721 Auxiliary.

She is survived by son: Gary (wife Marsha) Crites of Dawson, brothers: Walter J (wife Ruth) Thunhorst of Morrisonville, Ronald D (wife Nancy) Thunhorst of Tucson, AZ, several nieces and nephews including Dennis Steele of Morrisonville. Margaret Cleo Hafliger, 96, of Granbury, TX, formerly of Taylorville, IL passed away May 21, 2010 in Granbury Villa Nursing Home in Granbury, TX. She was born September 15, 1912 in Selb Bavaria, Germany, the daughter of Friedrich William and Rosa (Zietler) Kaufmann. She married Arthur Howard Hafliger on August 4, 1934 in Chicago, IL, he preceded her in death. She was retired. She was of the Catholic Faith, attending St Mary's School in the early years. She moved to Taylorville from Germany in 1921, she and her parents stayed with Her paternal aunts: Sisters Chrysostoma and Georgia in St Vincents Hospital in Taylorville for the first several months until they could get situated. She was known to her family as "Camie".

She is survived by her daughter: Rosemary Concotelli of Las Vegas, Nevada, daughter in law: Kay Largent of Moiese, MT, grandchildren: Bill Hafliger, Steve Hafliger, Mike Hafliger, Marty Hafliger, Joe Hafliger, Rick Concotelli, Tony Concotelli, Roseanne Ealy, Nannette Concotelli, sister in law: Mary Lou Hafliger of Taylorville, niece: Georgette Lawrence of Taylorville, and longtime friend and caretaker: Dora Comer. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and son: Arthur Ralph Hafliger.

Elizabeth Lillian Pounds Warren, 84 of Taylorville passed away Friday May 21st at 9:05 pm at her daughter's home.

She was born August 29, 1925 at Ishpeming, Michigan the daughter of Albert and Bertha McQuiggan. She married Roy Pounds, he preceded her in death. She then married Dale Warren, he also preceded her in death along with her parents; Son, Doug Pounds; Daughters, Nancy Kevie, Diana Winchester and Louverda Marcus; Grandson, Thomas Pounds, Great granddaughter, Nicci Johnson.

Elizabeth was a CNA working at area nursing homes. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Eagles Club 1425, Red Hats and loved playing cards, bingo and her family.

85 year old James Edward Reeves of Palm Harbor, Florida formerly of Taylorville passed away Sunday, May 16, 2010 at his home. He was born June 13, 1924 in Kincaid, the son of Karl and Helen (Shaw) Reeves. He married Annetta G. Gardner on February 10, 1944 in Brooklyn, New York. He was a farmer. Mr. Reeves was a member of the Masonic lodge, Shriner's, DAV, Serninole Lake Tennis Club and a graduate of the University of Illinois.

Arthur D. "Art" Schmidt, 75, of Stonington, IL. passed away Sunday, May 16, 2010, in Decatur Memorial Hospital at 3:49 pm. He was born February 22, 1935 in Effingham County, the son of Victor and Beulah Hutchins Schmidt. He married Maxine Horath in 1956 they later divorced. On July 3, 1970, he married Priscilla Root in Decatur, Il. He was employed by Caterpillar as a mechanic and machinist for 32 years retiring in 1987. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylorville and United Auto Workers Local 751. He enjoyed music, flying radio control airplanes, coaching youth baseball, and teaching Sunday school at church.

He is survived by his wife, Priscilla Schmidt of Stonington, sons: Gary (wife Sandra) Schmidt, Pryor, OK & Bruce Schmidt of Decatur, 2 grandchildren, sister: Carol Althoff and husband Dave of Watson, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and on brother Darrell Schmidt.

She married Rev Kenneth H Conant on November 14, 1942 in Drewfield, FL. He preceded her in death June 16, 1991. She was a retired United Methodist Pastor's Wife. She and her husband served churches in Edinburg, VA, Brush Valley, PA and in Illinois Elwin, Barry, Nokomis, Waverly, Lexington, Victoria, Marshall and Fairview(rural Pana) where she and her husband retired after 40 years of service. In their retirement they lived in Taylorville and later she moved to Pawnee. She spent many years at the Villa Health Care Facility in Sherman and most recently at Pleasant Hill Nursing Home in Girard.

She is survived by sons: Lloyd C Conant of Taylorville, David L (wife Barbara) Conant of Witt, daughter: Deborah S (husband Richard) Willhoit of Springfield, 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and 2 nieces. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, step mother: Evelyn Peck, 2 sisters, and 2 daughter in laws.

Visitation will be held from 9:30am until 11:00am in April 28, 2010 in the First United Methodist Church in Taylorville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on April 28, 2010 in the First United Methodist Church in Taylorville with Rev Charlie Sward, Rev John Keller and Rev Gary Bass officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Rural Pana.

Charles E Newberry, 82, of Taylorville, passed away April 22, 2010 at 6:01pm at his residence. He was born November 11, 1927. His parents were Claude and Bessie Montgomery Newberry.

He married Wanda Frost on May 30th 1950 in Piggot, AR. He was preceded by Wanda on April 1, 2009.

He was survived by sons Paul and Wife Jeannette Newberry of Shelbyville, Bill and wife Julitta Newberry of Taylorville, Tom and wife Christine Newberry of Dover, NH; Daughters Judy and Husband Donnie Durbin of Springfield, Linda Hart and Companion Mike Hart of Taylorville, Brenda and Husband Johnny Rever of St. Joseph, MO.

He was survived by 15 grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, and one great-great grandaughter.

He was preceded by parents, Son: Charles E. Newberry Jr., Brothers: Orville, Otis, and Coy Newberry, Sisters: Leah Jackson, and Lola Williams.

Visitation is Sunday April 25th from 5-7pm at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Funeral Service is Monday April 26th at 1:00 PM with Rev. Jonathon Maloney officiation. Burial is in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.

Charles was a machinist at Sangamon Card Company. He was also a US Navy veteran.

James "Jim" S Stalets, 67, of Taylorville passed away Thursday, April 24, 2010 at 10:25pm in his home. he was born March 26, 1943 in Taylorville, the son of William H and Evelyn Lucille (Carr) Stalets. He was a manager and salesman at various automobile dealerships in the Taylorville area.

He is survived by his mother: Evelyn Stalets of Taylorville, Companion: Roberta Trelz of Taylorville, sons: Trevor (wife Julie) Stalets of Decatur, Tad (wife Mona) Stalets of Riverton, 2 grandchildren, 2 brothers, 1 sister and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.

Reva Blaine "Jack" Frost, 79, of Taylorville, passed away at 5:35pm on April 21, 2010 at Taylorville Care Center. He was born June 2, 1930 in West Frankfort, IL, the son of Curtis and Lucille (Owens) Frost. He married Kathleen Champley, they later divorced. He was a retired Mechanic for Holland Dairy. He was an US Veteran having served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Taylorville Moose Lodge, Eagles Lodge, American Legion and VFW Post #4495 all of Taylorville.

He is survived by his sons: Gary (wife Connie) Frost of Chatham, Ronald (wife Donna) Frost of Taylorville, Jack (wife Margie) Frost of West Frankfort, IL, Kevin Frost of Bradenton, FL, daughter: Carol Dunkel of Chatham, 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 1 brother, 2 sisters and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 23, 2010 from 5:00 until 7:00pm in Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 23, 2010 at 7:00pm with Rev Dick Wamsley officiating in Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. B. Maxine Podeschi, 81, of Springfield, formerly of Taylorville passed away Wednesday, APril 21, 2010 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born January 13, 1929 in Mechanicsburg, IL, the daughter of Carl and Myrtle (Jones) Copple. She married Joseph Podeschi on May 1, 1949. Througout her life she enjoyed working in the food industry including George's Cany Shop and Judy Lynn Candies, as well as a hostess for 10 years at Ray's Place in Taylorville. She was a member of St Mary's Catholic Church in Taylorville and St Aloysius in Springfield.

She is survived by her husband: Joseph Podeschi of Springfield, son: Jordan (wife Sheryl) Podeschi of Taylorville, daughters: Linda (husband Jim) Richbark and Joyce (husband Bob) Zaffiri noth of Springfield, 7 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 1 sister and several nieces and nephews.

Johnnie Loren Blackburn, 82, of Taylorville, passed away April 15, 2010 at 5:50am in Taylorville Memorial Hospital. He was born December 19, 1927 in Olney, IL, the son of Clarence and Maudie (Cook) Blackburn. He married Nina Hill November 2, 1947 in Olney. He was a retired Insurance Agent and Antique Dealer and Collector. He was a member of the Midland United Methodist Church and US Army Veteran.

He is survived by his wife, sons: John D (wife Barbara) Blackburn of Lincoln, David B (wife Rose) Blackburn of Taylorville, daughters: Lana L (husband Bill) Kazenski of Mt Pleasant, SC, Linda C (husband Tom) Vonck of Taylorville, 15 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, 1 brother and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, 3 infant brothers and 1 sister.
