Taylorville Kiwanis Hear About Central Illinois Community Blood Center

Alexis Yardon and Kiwanis President Chris Weittenhiller

A donor relations consultant with the Central Illinois Community Blood Center in Springfield, was Tuesday’s guest speaker at the weekly meeting of the Taylorville Kiwanis Club at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital auditorium.

Alexis Yadron told the Kiwanis members that the C-I-C-B-C was formed in 1971, and serves 15 counties and 14 hospitals in the area, including both Christian County hospitals.

Yadron said one pint of blood saves 3 lives, with blood, platelets, and plasma all used from a donor. She added the qualifications to donate blood are pretty simple—you must be at least 16, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good health.

Yadron asked Kiwanis members to consider donating blood at the 3 upcoming Christian County blood drives, or to set up a blood drive at their own business.

O-negative blood is in short supply right now, and Yadron added that the period between Thanksgiving and New Year’s is when blood donations drop so blood donors are even more important.
