The Taylorville Kiwanis Club heard from Billy Williams and Bobbie Durbin about their new CTI fiber optic project at their weekly meeting on Tuesday. CTI is in the first phase of installing a citywide fiber optic cable network. Fiber optic cable is the fastest and most reliable way to access the internet. Traditional copper wires are about 100 times slower than modern fiber optic cable. CTI will initially be offering consumers internet access at speeds up to 50 mb/s. The network will also allow for phone and cable services, which they expect to offer beginning next year. Customers will able to sign up for the services once the network is completed in their neighborhood. The city is divided into 6 phases, which they estimate will take approximately 3 years to complete. For more information on CTI go to www.ctifiber.com. For more information on Taylorville Kiwanis go to www.taylorvillekiwanis.com.
