Taylorville Kiwanis Hear About Girl Scouts

Pictured Left to Right: Kiwanian Jody Mink and Kiwanis Vice President Chris Weittenhiller.

Jody Mink, the area coordinator for the Girl Scouts and a Taylorville Kiwanis member, was the guest speaker during the Tuesday luncheon at the weekly meeting of the Taylorville Kiwanis Club at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital auditorium.

Mink was dressed and gave her presentation as Juliette Gordon Lowe, who founded the Girl Scouts on March 12th, 1912 with just 18 girls.

Mink gave a history of Girl Scouting, and how it’s grown in the just over 100 years it’s existed.

Girl Scouts today number over 2-point-3 million in the United States, and some 2800 in the Decatur region that Mink serves.

Taylorville Kiwanis members were reminded of the upcoming Peanut Days fund raiser September 20th and 21st on the streets of Taylorville.  Kiwanis members will be on street corners and other locations, asking the public to donate to fund the many Kiwanis programs for children and youth in the Taylorville community.  Peanut Days is the club’s largest fund-raiser.

The Taylorville Kiwanis Club is part of global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.  Weekly meetings are held Tuesdays at noon at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital auditorium.  For information on the club, go to taylorvillekiwanis.com.
