The updated amounts of the Mitel phone system were given to the Taylorville School Board at their meeting Monday night. The board called for a re-bid at last month’s meeting due to specification issues between the three companies that could provide the system: Midco in the Chicago area, TechElectronics in the St. Louis area, and NewWave/Heart in the Taylorville and Decatur areas. Despite Midco being the lower than NewWave/Heart by 126-dollars, Technology Direct Chris Kuntzman still preferred NewWave because of the localism factor:
Board member David Cowell wanted to go with the lower bid and said location is not an issue:
The majority of the board, however, voted to approve the Mitel phone system through NewWave/Heart.
The Taylorville School Board was presented with a letter and petition in regards to the possible discontinuation of Early Bird classes at the Taylorville High School at their meeting Monday night. Junior Brent Frump, who was unable to attend the meeting, had a letter addressing the board read asking them to not let this happen:
The board will discuss the topic at a special session before July’s board meeting.
The Taylorville Schools are in the process of moving classrooms out of South School due to its closing. Superintendent Dr. Greg Feurstenau said in his report at the Taylorville School Board meeting Monday night that process is going well:
Kindergarten, first and second grade are being moved into North; third and fourth will be moved into the Memorial School System, and the fifth grade is being moved into the Junior High building.
