Illinois Falls To Ohio State In Big Ten Semis

3/13/2010

Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - Evan Turner continues to steal the show in
Big Ten Tournament, scoring 11 of his game-high 31 points in a pair of
overtime sessions to lead No. 5 Ohio State to an exciting, 88-81, victory over
Illinois to advance to the conference finals.

Turner, who drained a 37-foot three-pointer at the buzzer to beat Michigan on
Friday, also had 10 rebounds and six assists, though he did turn the ball over
10 times and fouled out in the second OT.

The top-seeded Buckeyes (26-7) have won six straight and will next play the
winner of the Purdue/Minnesota matchup.

William Buford chipped in 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Jon Diebler and
David Lighty netted 14 and 12 points, respectively, for Ohio State.

Illinois (19-14) had chances at the end of regulation and first overtime to
win the game but failed to get a shot off on each occasion.

Demetri McCamey posted 22 points, D.J. Richardson scored 15 and Mike Davis
contributed 13 points and 18 rebounds for the Fighting Illini, who knocked off
Wisconsin in the quarterfinals on Friday to pad its precarious NCAA Tournament
resume.

Chicago played without its three best players, Derrick Rose, Joakim [[ JOH-kim ]] Noah and Luol [[ LOO-all ]] Deng, due to various injuries. James Johnson and Jannero Pargo each poured in 20 points, while Brad Miller contributed 18 points and 11 boards. Tisdale Helps Illini Edge Wisconsin In Big Ten Quarters

3/12/2010

Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - Mike Tisdale scored 21 points and grabbed
eight rebounds to lead Illinois to a much-needed 58-54 victory over No. 13
Wisconsin in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament.

Demetri McCamey ended with 13 points and eight assists and D.J. Richardson
added 12 points for the Fighting Illini (19-13), which had lost to Wisconsin,
72-57, in the regular season finale.

That was the fifth loss in six games for the fifth-seeded Illini, but they
held Wisconsin to 28.6 percent shooting to advance to Saturday's semifinals
against top-seeded Ohio State.

Jon Leuer and Trevon Hughes each netted 14 points for the fourth-seeded
Badgers (23-8), who had a four-game winning streak snapped.

Hughes shot just 4-of-16 from the field but drained a trio of three-pointers
in the final minute to pull Wisconsin within 56-54 with 31.4 seconds left.

After Jeff Jordan made 1-of-2 from the foul line to keep it a one-possession
game, Jason Bohannon missed an open three from the right wing with Hughes
having just fouled out.

Mike Davis, who finished with 10 points and 10 boards, came down with the long
carom and made another freebie to seal the win and help Illinois' chances at
gaining an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament.

Wisconsin made just one field goal over the first six minutes of the game,
allowing Illinois to take an 11-3 lead on a Davis field goal.

Leuer scored five straight to make it a three-point game, but that was as
close as the Badgers got in the first half.

The Illini led 29-20 at the break and held the Badgers scoreless for the first
four minutes of the second half, as Richardson's three provided a 34-20 lead.

Despite the horrid shooting effort, Wisconsin was within 46-38 with four
minutes to go after Leuer capped an 8-0 run with a jumper.

After Bohannon missed a three in an attempt to make it a five-point game,
McCamey drained one from behind the arc for some breathing room.

Davis' three-point play with just over a minute left gave Illinois a 54-45
lead before Hughes made things interesting.

Game Notes

Illinois and Wisconsin split the regular season series...The Illini shot 52.5
percent from the field but had 17 turnovers, compared to just five for
Wisconsin...Hughes had five steals...Bohannon shot 1-for-10 from the field and
ended with five points.
